A dear family member just turned 80. He is (and always has been) so supportive of any creative endeavor I pursue — writing included. So, when I joined Medium, he was eager to see my work on the site.

The famous Seinfeld Show comes to mind when I think about the real-life dialogue that took place. “A show about nothing” that reflected the minutiae of daily life.

Scene: on the phone with Grandpa

Grandpa: So, how do I get this Medium?

Me: You join on their site. I texted it to you, remember?

Grandpa: Yeah, that didn’t work.

Me: Why? What happened?

Grandpa: It’s too complicated. It disappears on my phone. I’m on the site now. What do I do?

Me: Go to the search icon.

Grandpa: What’s that?

Me: The little thing that looks like an eyeglass.

Grandpa: The monocle?
