I couldn't agree more, John. I was reluctant to refer to the gentleman as "evil." I think physical pain--while no excuse--affects our perception.

I think most of the world is filled with compassionate, caring souls who want to help. When we are in physical pain, we tend to see the negative in others that we otherwise might not think twice about.

Your response has given me great food for thought. After all, the world often mirrors what we are experiencing internally. I was not in the best mood today with this constant pain, so it doesn't surprise me that I attracted someone in the store who seemed to have "checked out" in his heart.
