We depend on so many things in this life. From the air we breathe to our Smartphones working, life finds us relying on a great deal.
The late poet William Carlos Williams wrote a profound yet simple poem about his take on something as basic yet essential for life in 1923:
so much depends
upona red wheel
barrowglazed with rain
waterbeside the white
chickens
The wheelbarrow is a symbol — a vital instrument for agriculture. Food is life. Perhaps that’s why William Carlos Williams chose to use the color red.
Red represents blood and life. The wheel barrow sustains and fosters this life.
Without the wheelbarrow, where would civilization be?
